The Righteous Among The Nations
More than fifty years have passed since the end of the Second World War and the Holocaust, yet the events of this time continue to be of great significance to people the world over.
In this section of the Yad Vashem website you will find factual information about these cataclysmic events, including eyewitness accounts, explanations written by Yad Vashem scholars and excerpts from their publications.

Dimitar Peshev
Dimitar Peshev
played a more than significant part in saving the Jews of an entire nation: however he was soon forgotten by practically everyone.
Since 1998, thanks to the book "The Man who Stopped Hitler", by Gabriele Nissim, and to dozens of related events in Milan, Rome, Sofia, Strasbourg, Washington, Berlin, Jerusalem..., four Parliaments have recognized and officially commemorated Peshev and his courageous deed.
