The Sarajevo Garden of the Righteous

In the face of Evil "there is always an option to say yes or no"

The Garden of the Righteous in Sarajevo was created as a tribute to all those individuals who with courage and determination stood up against legalized inhumane treatment and helped the innocent, weak and defenceless who were living in the territory of the former Yugoslavia in the war years between 1991 and 1999.
The project was set in motion by the Gardens of the Righteous Sarajevo organization, a non-profit, non-governmental agency set up in Sarajevo on September 4, 2001 and affiliated with the similar organization existing in Milan, founded by Gabriele Nissim, essayist, and Pietro Kuciukian, a doctor who is also a prominent exponent of the Unione Armeni d'Italia.
The Sarajevo project is promoted and directed by Svetlana Broz.

The Garden of the Righteous Sarajevo is being developed along two interacting lines: social engagement and landscape design. The protagonists of the project’s social side are the Righteous who will be commemorated in the garden and, more generally, the people involved in the project through meetings and conferences. The landscape design element concerns the planning and creation of the garden itself.
